Belly Fat

Most people are familiar with the term "belly fat."  Carrying a "spare tire" has become one of the signatures of a modern lifestyle.  A lack of exercise and a high caloric intake can make even the healthiest person start carrying a few extra pounds.  However, while body fat is a necessity to some extent, belly fat is a bad thing, indeed.  While most people are aware of what belly fat is and the fact that it should be eliminated, most don’t understand the "why" behind that reasoning.

Why Is Belly Fat Bad?

First, belly fat is composed of a different type of fat than that found throughout the rest of the body. While you have subcutaneous fat in almost every area of the body and intramuscular fat, as well, belly fat is made up of visceral fat, or organ fat.  This type of fat holds toxins within the system.

The fact that belly fat holds toxins is a bad thing – as the level of these toxins increase, they begin to poison the body, leading to numerous health conditions.  In addition, as the level of fat surrounding your organs increases, other diseases come into play.  Of course, you likely know that belly fat leads to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, but it can also lead to Type II diabetes, as well as hypertension, heart disease, glucose intolerance and many other conditions.

Why Is It Hard To Eliminate?

Why is belly fat so hard to eliminate?  The problem is two-fold.  First, you must correct your lack of exercise and begin a healthy diet. Second, visceral fat is not used (burned) as readily as other types of fat – your body actually prefers to burn subcutaneous fat and even muscle tissue before visceral fat.  Just as belly fat can take years to put on, it can take quite some time to eliminate, as well, but it may be easier than you think.  The first step is to get started with a home fitness program.  In just a few short months, with the right fitness program and diet, results will start to show.  In just 60 days, a program like INSANITY will melt away some of that stubborn belly fat.
