It’s Time to Go Nuts!

If you have been involved in nutrition or sports for any length of time (or even glanced at a dietary guide in the doctor’s office), you know the importance of protein and Omega-3 fatty acids.  You also likely think that the best source of these elements is meat and fish.  However, in that assumption you would be wrong.  What is the best way to ensure that you have the protein content you need?  Where can you get the most Omega-3 fatty acids?  Nuts are the answer to your question.

How can nuts provide you with the fuel you need to get your body in shape and ensure that you enjoy the best health possible?  What nuts should you go "nuts" about?  What about the rumors that nuts are actually bad for your health?  Let’s tackle that last question first.  According to outmoded thinking, nuts were bad for your health.  This is because they do contain a large amount of fat and cholesterol.  However, this was determined long before the world knew the difference between good cholesterol and bad cholesterol (HDL and LDL). It was also given before anyone knew there was such a thing as "healthy" fats.

Today, nuts are one of the go-to sources for those who want to ensure they have the best nutritional intake possible.  In fact, nuts contain more protein than many meats do.  What nuts should you eat? Almonds and walnuts provide you with a tremendous amount of the nutrients you need for a healthy life, no matter what your lifestyle might be.

You will also discover that these nuts are high in a number of other vitamins and minerals essential for good health and a long life.  Potassium, B vitamins, vitamin E, sodium, calcium, phosphorus and, of course, protein, can all be found in nuts and are important to maintaining a healthy body, mind and emotional outlook.
